Privacy Policy
Volta connects your phone to compatible televisions on your local network or through your phone's infrared emitter. This policy describes the data used by the app, your choices, and how to request deletion.
Data used by Volta
| Data | When and why | Destination |
|---|---|---|
| Optional usage analytics | App opens, screens, and major feature actions, only after you enable Analytics. | Firebase Analytics (Google). |
| Optional crash diagnostics | Stack traces, Android/app version, and device model, only after you enable Crash Reports. | Firebase Crashlytics (Google). |
| Advertising data | IP address (which may indicate approximate location), app/device information, consent signals, and advertising ID when available and permitted. Used to serve, measure, cap, and protect ads from fraud. | Google AdMob and User Messaging Platform. |
| Optional notification profile | Firebase installation ID and token, notification choices, locale/time zone, app/Android version, and basic pairing/activity status. Created only after notification enrolment and required consent gates. | Firebase Cloud Functions, Firestore, and Cloud Messaging. |
| Optional support request | Contact detail and message you enter, plus the installation, app, locale, time-zone, Android, manufacturer, and model details disclosed before sending. | Firebase Cloud Functions/Firestore and Resend delivery to our support inbox. |
| Purchase status | Product and entitlement information needed to buy or restore monthly, yearly, or lifetime ad removal. | Google Play Billing; Volta does not operate a purchase server. |
We do not sell or rent personal data. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics are off until you make an explicit choice. Advertising consent is separate and is managed through Google's consent controls where required. Choices can be changed in Settings → Privacy.
Data kept on your device
Saved TV profiles, network addresses, pairing credentials, settings, custom layouts, and IR choices are stored locally. Pairing credentials are encrypted with Google Tink. Volta does not upload what you watch.
Photos, video, music, casting, and mirroring
Volta uses Android Photo Picker or the system document picker, reads only the item you select, and does not request broad media-library access. Casting and mirroring run a temporary local server and send media to the TV you select over local Wi-Fi. These streams use tokenised HTTP because many televisions cannot receive local app media over HTTPS. They are not uploaded to Volta's cloud, but people or software on the same network may be able to observe unencrypted local traffic. Mirroring starts only after Android's capture confirmation, displays a persistent notification, and stops when you end it.
Microphone and voice
Microphone access is requested only when you start voice control. Depending on the mode, audio is processed by your Android device's configured speech-recognition service or streamed directly over the local connection to a supported TV. Volta does not store a cloud recording. The speech provider and TV manufacturer may process audio under their own terms.
Permissions and local network
On Android 13 and later Volta requests Nearby Wi-Fi Devices for discovery; older versions may require location permission. Infrared, microphone, notifications, media projection, and media-selection access are requested for the related feature. Denial does not block unrelated remote-control features.
Providers
- Google Firebase: Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config, App Check, Cloud Messaging, Cloud Functions, Firestore, and installation identifiers.
- Google AdMob and User Messaging Platform: advertising and ad consent.
- Google Play Billing: purchases and restores.
- Resend: delivery of optional support messages.
See Google's privacy policy and Resend's privacy policy.
Retention and deletion
- Local data remains until you delete it or uninstall Volta.
- Disabling notification enrolment or using Delete my data deletes the server-side notification profile and local notification token.
- Analytics and Crashlytics records follow the configured Google-service retention. Turning collection off prevents new collection.
- Support tickets are deleted or anonymised within 24 months unless longer retention is required for law, security, or fraud prevention.
Settings → Delete my data clears paired TVs, credentials, custom layouts, preferences, consent state, local identifiers, and the notification profile. Google Play purchases remain tied to your Play account. Support tickets cannot always be matched after the installation ID is deleted; email support@voltaremote.com with the contact detail used to request access, correction, export, objection, or deletion.
Children
Volta is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information. The Google Play target audience for this release is adults. Contact us if you believe a child provided personal information.
